Ronald M. Powell,
is a financially active member of the National Association and the
Washington, D.C. Metro Chapter. He’s also a former member of the San
Francisco Bay Area Chapter. Currently, Ron is president and general manager
of Soul Journey Enterprises, Inc., a 30-year old travel and leisure firm
based in Washington, D.C. As part owner, Ron frequently volunteers company
resources to help plan and execute lucrative fundraising activities for the
Washington Chapter. As chair of the Chapter’s fundraising committee, Ron
has contributed both time and money to raising scholarship funds for the
University. For the past two years, he has spearheaded five major
fundraising efforts for the Washington Chapter, enabling the chapter to
raise over $35,000 in scholarship funds. This year Ron was one of the
chapter’s major motivators in challenging members in our local chapter to
participate in the Tom Joyner campaign. He penned a form letter for use by
members to encourage other alumni not affiliated with a local chapter to
participate in the campaign as well. This letter campaign has resulted in
the Washington Chapter raising an additional $1,500 for the Tom Joyner
initiative.
In addition to chairing the fundraising
committee, Ron was a member of the host committee for the 1999 National
Alumni Convention held in Washington, D.C. In 2000, Ron was co-chair of the
LU Reunion Class of 1960. In this capacity, he was instrumental in class
members pledging $20,000 to the University during Homecoming and sponsoring
a luncheon in honor of former faculty members and administrators who worked
at Lincoln University in the late 1950s. Currently, he edits a newsletter
aimed at locating and keeping in touch with Class of 1960 members. Ron has
volunteered to serve as co-chair of the Class of 1960’s 50th
reunion in 2010. Ron regularly attends Homecoming and National Conventions.
He is a financial member of the Blue Tiger Athletic Association.
Ron is very active in the Washington,
D.C. metropolitan area. He’s a member of the NAACP, participates in voter
registration drives, supports the DC Food & Friends, Us Helping Us and
Prince George’s County Hospice DC Aids.
A world traveler, Ron is a member of
the Inter-American Travel Agents Society. He is extremely active, both
physically and financially, in providing aid to under-privileged Black/Afro
groups in several Caribbean and Latin American countries, the Dominican
Republic, Panama, Costa Rica and Venezuela.
One of five generations, who attended
Lincoln University, Ron is spearheading a family project to present a
monetary gift, along with the original 1913 teaching diploma of his great,
great grandmother, to Page Library. A true Lincolnite, Ron is very proud of
his educational heritage. The National Alumni Association is also proud to
acknowledge Ron’s outstanding contribution to his local Chapter and the
University with this award.
